Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Australian Indigenous Studies

Students must have completed their UNSW undergraduate degree program in Indigenous Studies or a relevant major, or equivalent recognised Level 7 qualification at another institution with a major in a stream offered in the program.

Entry to Honours requires a WAM of 70 or higher (or equivalent) in Indigenous Studies or relevant stream.

Admission to Honours in Indigenous Studies is subject to resources and the approval of the Academic Lead, Nura Gili Indigenous Programs.

  • Indigenous issues and the law
  • Theories of decolonisation and settler colonialism
  • Politics and ideology of race, gender and sexuality
  • Cultural studies, popular culture, studies of material culture
  • Sovereignty, Self-Determination, Nationhood, Self-Government
  • Aboriginal education, including history of Aboriginal education
  • Country-centred/place-based learning
  • Indigenous research methodologies
  • Learning and teaching in Indigenous higher education
  • Indigenous histories, especially contemporary history and history of activism
